  • There are more grass-roofed houses in the Faroe Islands than any other place in the world. Whether you are visiting the Faroe Islands in the summer or winter, the turf-roofed houses are always fascinating.

@intohimoni for a sense of scale.

  • The day before this shot was taken, the whole place was a complete whiteout from a sudden snow flurry. You couldn’t even see the Tiger Nest Monastery from this distance. I was actually worried that I wouldn’t pull off the shot due to the inclement weather. Fortunately, after studying various weather forecasts, I was confident the clouds would dissipate slowly and besides there was nothing else to do but give it a go!
Now as Tiger Nest is perched on a mountain, I knew that I wouldn’t have to get there before sunrise as I would usually and on top of that, I didn’t fancy sitting around in sub-zero conditions. So alarm set for 4:30am instead of 3:30am - I’m already winning! As I stood outside waiting for my guide from @bhutantours. I looked hopelessly at the ominous weather. Visibility was poor. My guide, Sonam pessimistically said that there was a 50/50 chance we would see sunrise and that he even prayed for me! But those odds were good enough for me! On average, it was a 2 – 3 hour trek to this viewpoint but as it was cold we stormed it in 1 hour 40 mins (with a coffee break)! As if our prayers were answered, upon reaching the viewpoint, the clouds started to lift slowly like curtains unveiling one of the greatest shows on Earth. Tiger Nest Monastery was as enchanting as I had imagined it to be. I was always captivated by the monastery sitting precariously on the edge of these vertiginous cliffs. Was I hallucinating from the high altitude?
The scenery looked like it belonged in a blockbuster CGI movie! As the hairs began to stand up on the back of my neck, I had to blink several times to adjust my eyes to comprehend such a marvel and appreciate such audacious architecture. At that moment the universe aligned and I was there as a helpless spectator watching as all the elements came together at exactly the right time: The blinding sun peeped from behind the mountain illuminating the snow brushed evergreens and the low clouds in the valley.

This is me savouring life intensely every hundredth of a second. #traveltuesday

  • Just wrapped up my week that was filled with fun projects that involved a lot of food, a few pregnancy shoots as well (no not mine, they where for my sister in law - I promise) and a lot of beautiful moments with family. ♥️ Which included a lot of food as well (so yeah I’m not complaining - food is life). 🥑🌾 These moments make me so happy. I’m in my happy place when I’m with family or when I’m spending time in nature. And it’s even better when I get to combine these two 🧡🌿 Where is your happy place?
