Do you ever feel exhausted doing all the things and jumping through all the hoops all the people tell us we need to do to do all the things the world convinces us we should value and strive for? Enjoy this Sabbath day to rest in God’s kingdom...with different rules, values, goals, and rhythms.
•
We are called to be world changers, not world chasers. And we can’t change the world while circling the culdesac of the lies it promises.
•
For now, we are IN this world. There is absolutely nothing wrong with doing the things we must do to grow and enhance our gifts. But at the end of the day, we remember we are not OF this world. We belong to God and our true home is with Him. Every good and perfect gift is from above to glorify Him.

Here’s to chasing after things of Jesus more than things of the world.

“Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.” Colossians 3:2
•
“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind...” Romans 12:2a
•
“Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.” 1 John 2:15
•
“For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what shall a man give in return for his soul?” Matthew 16:26

  • Our moments of fear. Our moments of pain. Our moments of anxiety.
Here in this world, they are truly only moments. They’re temporary. God knows each and every one of them. He covers each and every one of them. And those moments will be followed by everlasting blessing; nothing here will ever compare to the glory that is to come. Victory is His!
Praise the Lord for His comfort and His strength. ✨

  • AW TOZER // What do you think about?
___________
When I was younger, I didn’t really see him as the loving Father. He was powerful and big and scary. I approached God with reverence, but more out of guilt and shame, than of loving acceptance.
___________
Fast forward to now, and when I close my eyes, and think about God, I can’t help but smile. I feel peace. And love. No condemnation. No shame. Nothing scary at all.
___________
What we think about God shapes SO MUCH of our lives. It shapes it all. I think if you’re scared to pray, to ask God what you need, it’s because you haven’t been fully released of what pulls you down ... and what ultimately pulls you away from the love of the Father.
___________
Let that go. And let your thoughts of God be of acceptance. He’s waiting. And He loves you so much.

  • #memorymonday is that a thing? I need it to be a thing because I keep missing throwback Thursday and flashback Friday lol
Anyways, here are some pictures from my big brother’s wedding a few weeks ago. I love how much fun my family has together. Each year we grow in how we love each other and support one another. This day was no different!

Often letting go is harder than hanging on, white knuckled and clutching with all your strength. But letting go and giving the situation, and the pain associated with it, is the only way you will ever move forward. ⠀
⠀
Trust me! I know how hard it is to simply let go! I want to fix whatever’s not right. But at some point, I have realized that it’s not within my power to repair the damage. Other people with their own thoughts and feelings are involved and I can’t expect to change them. The only person I can change is me. ⠀
⠀
Through lots of tears and missteps, I have learned that I have to give my hurts and the situation I can’t change to God. And then, I must LET IT GO! Even then, that change in mindset requires a lot of prayer and trust in an all-knowing, benevolent God. ⠀
⠀
There are times when Satan will rear his ugly head. At the times you are most vulnerable, he will try to loosen your grip on your faith and remind you of the hurt. The pain. The betrayal. And you’ll be tempted to pick up the problem and attempt unsuccessfully, to solve it on your own. Oh, how many times I’ve done that. But in almost every one of my attempts to make things better, I only made them worse. I seemed to dig a deeper hole that often takes weeks to climb out of and see the light of day again. Now when I feel the urge to act on my own thoughts and desires, I pray. I pray often and cry out as if my very life depends on it. You see, my quality of life depends fully on the steadfast love of God and the hope I have in Him. ⠀
⠀
Let go of that rung that’s holding you captive and grab hold of the next one. The one that moves you forward to a life of peace and hope.

  • ✨ Let's Chat ✨ How is your relationship with food?

This can be an ongoing process and takes intentionality and effort just like any other relationship.

Jose and I went on vacation last week and it was the first time in over a year that we had a FULL 😲 cheat day. Not just a meal in the day, but the full day.

I contemplated and went back and forth for hours before deciding to JUST DO IT🤦. I realized that I was having a fear of food and it was stopping me from enjoying special moments with my fam.

Finally I just gave it up to God and decided you know what.... if this is causing me anxiety there is a problem here. I gave it up to God and asked Him to help me see food and my health in a redemptive way that doesn't bring slavery, but freedom!

You know what??☺️ We had some real darn good food... We enjoyed some Venezuelan food that is close to my husband's heart ( that's where he's from), and we chowed down like there was no tomorrow.

ALL of this to say there has to be balance when we approach food and if you find yourself feeling anxiety, check your heart and dig deeper! 👊 There may just be freedom on the other side. 💕

  • { yesterday felt like such a breathe of fresh air to my soul, so much so i could feel it in my bones. and Lord knows i desperately needed it and have been craving for days like these.

the sun shone bright as i woke up with my two favorite people and got ready for church. the sun shone bright into the sanctuary as we worshiped together. the sun shone bright as my mom and i took Charlotte shopping, while Papas and Daddy assembled her first swing set. And the sun shone bright as we played into the evening in the backyard with our baby girl. ( who is turning THREE this week. 😭 )

the past couple weeks have felt heavy, filled with anxiety and depression. but yesterday, yesterday was not one of those days. or today. and i am so thankful for that. } 🙏🏻💖 #herecomesthesun #getaftergrateful #honestmotherhood

  • When I started The Joyful Life, I knew there would be much work ahead, sleepless nights, unexpected obstacles, the necessity to learn a lot of things I didn’t know, and mistakes made along the way.⠀
⠀
But I also knew there would be many, many blessings. Some of which I anticipated—the joy of doing work I love, having an outlet to encourage women with the joy found in Jesus, and the ability to create a space where many writers and artists could share their words, gifts, and hearts with other women. ⠀
⠀
But one blessing I didn’t anticipate, nor could I have possibly fathomed the magnitude of, is the gift God has so richly and abundantly poured out on me in the form of relationships and friendships that feed my soul. I never could have imagined all the ways God would use this past year to bring women into my life who have had, and continue to have, a tremendous impact on my life. I am literally astonished at God’s goodness in fresh new ways this year and I truly stand in awe of the overflowing encouragement, love, wisdom, grace, and support He has poured out on me, from all over the world, through women I did not know just one year ago. ⠀
⠀
Logan @loganlwolfram is one such blessing in my life—so much encouragement and real-life wisdom (always delivered with a healthy dose of hilarious and a southern accent to top it off!). She is absolutely hysterical, as real as it gets, so very wise, AND lives in a #tinyhouse with her husband, their two boys and their BIG crazy puppies. When I first ‘met’ her online, after seeing her speak at a conference, I messaged her and told her I wished she was my next door neighbor. #stalkermuch? But I really meant it!⠀
⠀
This January I got to fly out to Logan’s house, the @tinywolflodge to hang out with her for the day and shoot photos to accompany her article in The GATHER Issue about what God has taught her about abundant living in a tiny house. ⠀
⠀
Y’all—it’s a whole lot of heartfelt, profound wisdom—and may just leave you wanting to try your own #tinyhouseadventure.⠀

  • Been meditating on Psalms 139 the past few weeks and it has completely breathed life into me.
The Message translation says it so beautifully. Verses 5-6 “I look behind me and you’re there, then up ahead and you’re there, too-your reassuring presence, coming and going. This is too much, too wonderful-I can’t take it all in!” God sees you. He sees you in the middle of the night taking care of your babies. He sees at your desk during the day. He sees you making dinner. He sees you in the darkness. There is no darkness to God, only light. Verses 7-12 say there is no place we can go to avoid the spirit, to get out of His sight.
How comforting, how reassuring is His love.
Before our parents even thought about us God already knew every single detail. From the number of hairs on our head, to the amount of freckles on our body, He created us so beautifully. Every day of our lives were prepared before we even lived one day.

Whatever you’re going through today, just let these words wash over you. I encourage you to meditate on Psalms 139 all week. Read it in a different version every day and let the Holy Spirit love on you this week💕

  • I was finally able to go to church for the first time this year. And we sang this hymn that I LOVE from @indeliblegrace. It’s a very old hymn to a new tune by Kevin Twit. The second verse hit me so hard yesterday morning... “Take His easy, yoke and wear it;
Love will make your, obedience sweet;
Christ will give you, strength to bear it,
While His grace, shall guide your feet
Safe to glory, Safe to glory, Safe to glory,
Where His ransomed captives meet.” I was hit so hard by the line “Christ will give you strength to bear it, while His grace will guide your feet.” And the big reason I was struck is because I’ve been trying to say more what I’m thankful for. It takes work to do it. I have been trying to see what’s good in my life, even though I might be in bed all day. When I’m not grateful for anything, then I don’t believe the truth. I only see darkness. That’s why it’s practice. It takes work and I have to try again and again to see it. But yesterday I did. Very thankful I made it to church.

  • I strongly believe that our stories are the most powerful tools we have--more powerful than facts, than degrees or accolades, more powerful than money or status. Our stories have the ability to simultaneously make others feel less alone and to inspire them towards the hope of what could be! Today on the blog, I have the honor of sharing this sweet soul's story of recovery from food, exercise and body image bondage in Christ. Read Sarah's (@livinglikegolden) beautiful words at the link in my bio ☀️

  • Decide today...
.
...that you will not dwell on the negative thoughts in your head.
.
...that you will make a step toward doing that thing you keep feeling God prodding you to do.
.
...that you will forgive and love instead of hold grudges and cut down others.
.
...that you will put the armor of God on and fight back against what is unholy, unwanted, and ugly.
.
“For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ.’’ 2 Cor. 10:4-5
.
Choose to live by His Spirit and not the temptations of the world. I believe in you.👊

  • My phone got stolen over the weekend and despite how my prior self would have responded to the situation, I was able to remain quite calm. It helped that I had a community of loving and kind people around me to support me in ways I couldn’t support myself.

I shared in my story last week how Instagram doesn’t have to demand a break by shutting down for the day in order for you to take a one. I’ve started taking breaks from this app and others 1 day a week—sometimes more. Jesus has been teaching me a lot through the practice. I think what we find when we detach from things like social media or even just our phones in general, is that they are not as much a part of us as we often think they are. We give so much attention and time to our phones, but at the end of the day they are only temporary and disposable objects.

Was it inconvenient to not have a phone? Heck yes! Did I continually and habitually reach for my phone? most certainly. But God has a funny way of reminding me in moments like that to look and focus my attention on Him.

After lots of prayer and persistent texts/calls to the individual who took my phone, they decided to return it. It was a blessing. It was unexpected. And I’m grateful. Grateful for my phone, yes. But also grateful to not feel lost and deprived without technology like I once did.

  • Note to self:
Don’t get it twisted.... YOU are more important to Him than the vision.
Yes! Write that vision make it plain, BUT if He had to choose between you building wealth on earth and spending eternity in heaven... you already know which one is His utmost priority.

Above ALL else He wants your heart. Period.
Don’t make your dream an idol and lose your soul in the process.

🎵What a day that will be,
When my Jesus I shall see!
When I look upon His face,
The One who saved me by His grace!
When He takes me by the hand
And leads me through the promised land—
What a day, glorious day that will be!🎵⠀

  • We should always be willing to serve others and with a humble heart. Jesus came to serve, as should we.

  • My mom used to say this to me. I’m not sure if she came up with it but regardless - It is so incredibly true - isn’t it? 💡 Your thoughts rule your world. For the last couple months, we moved out of our home to sell it then moved back in after a month and then bought a new home and moved back out 🏠 There’s been personal ups and downs and some trying situations that have needed wise navigation. Life felt hectic.
.
I know the power of our thoughts. But for the last couple months, I became a victim of my own negative self-talk. And you know what manifested? exhaustion, busyness, chaos, anger, fear.
.
But today was different. I woke up at 5am and did my Lent study. I spent time in prayer giving it all to God. And then I wrote pages and pages of “affirmations” of who I am...and let me tell you, the energy has shifted back and its powerful 🙌🏻 How do you get yourself out of a slump?

The reason it’s important to know things that God never says is because it means He never says them about us either. Everything God created is good. That includes each of us. Even if something happens to ruin what He has made, He provides us a way back to complete restoration. | Stormie Omartian, “30 Days to Becoming a Woman of God”
