Chryseia vineyards, part of the big Prats Bordeaux family & Symington portugese family, P + S, is based in the beautiful Douro valley but has a unique origin and approach.
The attempt to apply Bordeaux wine-making methods to grapes which are traditionally destined for the production of vintage Port is the essence of the exciting CHRYSEIA project.
Constantly gaining international recognition, the wine has its secret. Grapes comes from two different estates in the cima Corgo, Quinta de Roriz & Quinta de Perdiz, both with different exposures. A blend limited to Touriga Nacional and Touriga France, controlled temperatures getting structure withouth the heaviness of douro overly extracted style.

Why are some wines named by grape, and others named by region? A lot of it has to do with laws, but some of it is also just marketing. Generally, Old World wines come from distinguished reputations based on both the winemaking techniques and the land. Whereas New World wines, and even new world drinkers, tend to talk about wines in terms of being varietally correct. Another big reason is that Old World producers do a lot more blending of the wines, making it hard to pinpoint exactly which grapes are present and in which amount.

La Jota Vineyard Co.
2015 W.S. Merlot
Howell Mountain AVA, Napa Valley
This visual on this wine is stunning, showing off an incredible amount of vibrance and youth and a medium plus viscosity and density giving this Merlot the kind of backbone you would anticipate.
The nose on this wine will take your breath away, expressing a beautiful and opulent bouquet of freshly picked blueberries and perfectly ripened açaí berries.
The palate on this wine blew me away with a soft structure and youthful mild tannins that compliment both a balanced proportion of sweetened black currants on the mid palate, and a creamed vanilla extract on the finish.
Enjoy this wine by itself of with your favorite red fish or red sauce pasta dish and some of your closest family and friends.
