  • Is this megalithic real? It sure is! Welcome to the town of Setenil de las Bodegas in Spain, where around 3,000 inhabitants are living quite literally, under a rock!⁣
.⁣
It is believed people have been living here since pre-historic times. This is based on evidence for habitation by prehistoric man in nearby caves, such as the Cueva de la Pileta, which is known for its cave paintings. However, the continuous occupation of the area means most of this evidence would have been erased over time. It is more certain that the area was populated by the time the Romans arrived in the area during the 1st century AD.⁣

  • The Great Sphinx of Giza is a limestone statue of a reclining sphinx, a mythical creature with the body of a lion and the head of a human. Facing directly from West to East, it stands on the Giza Plateau on the west bank of the Nile in Giza, Egypt. ⁣

Here is what is conventionally believed about the Sphinx
⁣
The face of the Sphinx is generally believed to represent the Pharaoh Khafre. Cut from the bedrock, the original shape of the Sphinx has been restored with layers of blocks. It measures 73 metres (240 ft) long from paw to tail, 20.21 m (66.31 ft) high from the base to the top of the head and 19 metres (62 ft) wide at its rear haunches. ⁣
⁣
It is the oldest known monumental sculpture in Egypt and is commonly believed to have been built by ancient Egyptians of the Old Kingdom during the reign of the Pharaoh Khafre (c. 2558–2532 BC). ⁣

  • Anyone who #travels knows that you are not doing so just to move around. Instead, we are traveling to be moved... This weekend, #slanecastle ‘s rich rock n roll history moved us. Hands down our top recommended tour in #irelandsancienteast #countymeath . Really what you see is not just a castle on a hill but some unawakened moods and a place inside yourself that you wouldn’t see sleepwalking through life. For those who are about to Rock ‘n Roll baby, we salute you!

  • Every day approximately 8 million pieces of plastic pollution find their way into our oceans.
There may now be around 5.25 trillion macro and microplastic pieces floating in the open ocean. Weighing up to 269,000 tonnes. Plastics consistently make up 60 to 90% of all marine debris studied.
•
@4ocean is working to END the ocean plastic crisis one pound at a time. 🌊
They have removed over 4,000,000 pounds of plastic from the earth’s oceans since 2017.
