To the person who came up with “you can never have too much of a good thing”, I've been toasting my whisky to you! Just when I thought Islay couldn’t get any better, the sun came out yesterday and I checked into @glenegedalehouseislay.
After the warmest of welcomes from the lovely Emma, I plonked myself down in front of the fire and was served a pot of tea with a selection of home baking; the shortbread is honestly the best I’ve ever tasted. This was followed by sandwiches generously filled with egg mayo (their own fresh eggs) and Argyll smoked salmon with avocado. I was only eating all of these delicious things as fuel for my outdoor adventure, obviously 😉
My afternoon was spent exploring The Big Strand on a ‘Fat Bike’ - named as such due to the chunky tyres - with @kayakwildislay. Swirly lines in the sand were filled with shallow puddles of water which glistened in the light and cast reflections of the blue sky.
The smoothness of the sand, and the sturdiness of the ‘Fat Bike’ meant that cycling was easy peasy - I still wore a helmet regardless! Those of you who have been following my escapades for some time will remember my accident on the Isle of Eigg when I flew off my bike and landed on my head. I learned my lesson that day 🙈
After my energetic bike-bound beach exploration, I visited @Laphroaig Distillery to sample one of their whisky cocktails. Think smoky Laphroaig 10, lemon juice, honey and ginger. Oh, and there was also Laphroaig smoked cheese. My tastebuds were doing backflips!
The day finished with a wee tour of Islay’s south coast with Emma and her lass, before returning to Glenegedale House, for a very special dinner tonight. Full details coming soon in my blog post! .

Does it get any better? 💙

A short drive from #Inverness through stunning landscapes together with a bit of luck is all it takes to see these handsome locals.
It has been a very snowless winter this year so I took the opportunity to venture out to the Cockbridge-Tomintoul road when we had a recent snowfall - I suspect that this will be the last of this winters limited snow.
Last nights Torcher Parade 2019 was held by the University of Aberdeen. Now in its 129th year, travelled the length of Union Street starting from Albyn School.
Everyone filled the sidewalks to watch and support them.
