  • Red-tailed hawks (Buteo jamaicensis) are perching hunters. They sit and wait for something to show up to catch. Usually you see them on a post next to the highway. This one I saw flying from tree to tree, looking for lunch.

  • You can either have a stunning images to capture someone’s attention
.
Or you can have average photos.
.
I much prefer having amazing visuals.
.
Having an eye for good visuals is a skill.
.
One of the times I enjoy photography is when I can look back at my old work, and say that it’s no good.
.
Only then I know I’m getting better.
.
Only then I can visually see growth
.
Are your visual assets improving?

Let me know down below!

  • ✨✨Becoming uncomfortable✨✨
.
..
...
I’m so happy to be home and also so grateful for the time away in a new place. I mentioned this to my friends that it felt like when I came home that I had travelled to an alternate universe/dimension and that either a LOT of time had passed or none at all. I found myself being in unfamiliar places, breaking the routine that we are all use to having, spending a lot of time ALONE; away from familiar faces and places to coming back to a place that you’ve established as home. Comfort. We tend to become comfortable. Comfortable in the things we do, the people we see, the places we go, the goals we have, how we THINK we act or feel as individuals. The routine. .
..
... What if we become uncomfortable and break away from what we are use too or even who we think we are. Are you not going to say hi to a stranger or hug your parents because it’s not “who you are”? It feels foreign and uncomfortable. I get it. How can we become uncomfortable? Ive tried to translate this to my artwork as well. Expanding my knowledge into trying new things without having to think that it looks finished or perfect. Drawing wherever the pencil goes. I’ll be sharing more of what I’ve been working on in the posts to come. Thanks for reading ;)

  • TONER
Probably one of the most common questions we get as colourists... what is toner?
Toner is the second step of the colouring process after lightening, where the TONE of the colour is deposited. There are two things that factor into hair colour...#1 level (lightness) #2 tone (warm/cool). When we are lightening or bleaching hair we are changing the level of it...But the underlying pigment in hair is always warm. Always... I don’t know how many times I’ve heard “my hair pulls really red!” 😂
.
So after you’ve gone through and lightened the hair to the desired level, you are left with a raw yellow or orange colour. Which in most cases isn’t exactly #hairgoals . So the toner is used to neutralize unwanted tones. Most of the time we are trying to get rid of warmth so we use a toner with ash or cool tones. But if you are wanting to enhance warm tones you could use a copper based toner for example to intensify a redhead. .
.
There are different toners with different levels and different colours for pretty much anything you could ever ask for. So to say “I don’t like toner because -insert reason here” just means maybe the wrong toner was used in the past. Unless you like raw bleached orangey yellow hair, toner is your best friend. .
Most of the time (not always) we use a Demi permanent colour to tone the hair. Which means over time it is going to fade. This is why at home care is so important to maintain your colour for as long as possible in between appointments! Your purple shampoo is your second best friend.
.
.
99% of people need their hair toned after a lightening session. This is why I include it in my pricing. As a consumer I hate thinking I’m going to pay a certain price, and then being stuck with a larger bill in the end because I didn’t even know what toner was or that I needed it 🤷‍♀️ . I also include it because I take pride in my work, and I don’t want anybody “cheaping out” and having the final product suffer because of it. I’ve literally had a client tell me no thanks I’ll just pick up toner at Sally’s 😑 bitch no. .
Hopefully that was somewhat helpful... but if you have any questions or if I missed anything, comment below! 👇
