When we started talking about our next trip, Jamaica was not the plan. Another J country (*cough* Japan) was on the very tippy top of my list and I was determined to get there. But, life had other plans - and we were way too broke to do Japan right. So, we went back to the drawing board. We needed something closer, less expensive, something that required less time... I remembered back to an email from an old customer/friend (hey Erin!) - she’d found the perfect spot in Jamaica and recommended that I head there ASAP. After digging through my way flooded inbox, I found the spot - and our trip to Port Antonio was set in motion. We booked a flight just a couple of days later!

This statue is here because of Linda Noe Laine, Louisiana native whose father was friends with John Ford. When she came to Portland in the 90s she didn't see a trace of the director who defined the genre and won 6 academy awards. She donated funds and worked with the former mayor Jack Dawson to find a spot for a statue. The place they chose is called Gorham's corner, the heart of the former Irish immigrant district, close to Ford's father's grocery store where he also sold alcohol out the back. The statue says: "I make westerns" But it's only a part of an awesome quote. You had to have huge balls to look at founding father of US cinema and biggest and most influential person in the industry at the time in the eyes and say this in front of your peers: “My name’s John Ford. I make Westerns. I don’t think there’s anyone in this room who knows more about what the American public wants than Cecil B. DeMille — and he certainly knows how to give it to them…. [looking at DeMille] But I don’t like you, C.B. I don’t like what you stand for and I don’t like what you’ve been saying here tonight.”

Spring has arrived and I am planning a few trips around Europe. I tend to go to Europe either spring or summer and now, I have the urge to go to Norway and Iceland. My friends think i’m crazy but i’m going!
Last year in London we had the most amazing longest heat wave (which is rare) and for that I decided to stay in London throughout the whole duration of the summer and attended events, festivals and did some outdoor activities that I had not done before! I had saved all the planned hot holidays for the winter season and I enjoyed it, Successfully cheating and avoiding the real cold parts of winter here in London.
Now spring is here, there are a ton of events that I will be going to including solo daycations around some parts of Europe. What are your plans for this spring?
