  • Kerala Travelogue Pt.2

Cochin greeted me with a giant advertising board of Dulquer Salman informing me that the entire airport runs only on solar power, meanwhile Trump believes that Global Warming is a myth. The drive from the airport to the hotel was picturesque with various bridges, canals with boats, slight drizzling and a noticeable lack of cows on the streets (they were in a curry somewhere).
Without much ado, I ditched my bag and went scavenging for the best South Indian thali. The speciality about Keralite food is the omnipresent taste of coconut in all their dishes. G. Sangeetha (my guide/driver) and I hogged on appams, mutton stew, fish fry, rasam, sambar and countless chutnies. My hotel was located in Willington Island and most of the tourist sites were in Forte Kochi. Rather than taking the car, we decided to catch the ferry which dropped us about 2kms away from Jew Town. What followed was guided tour of the Pardesi Synagogue, Mattancherry Palace, Santa Cruz Basilica and finally the Chinese fishing nets.
The cobbled streets flanked with Tipa trees painted the picture of a place that escaped the ruins of the present century. Keralites, all smiling and welcoming, showcased a sense of pride in their state which bounced back from one of worst floods known to man in a matter of 3 months. We then moved to the Kashi Art Cafe for a light dinner among artisan prowess.
