  • During the reign of Louis XIV and Louis XV, Notre Dame underwent alterations to comply with the more classical style at the time. F.e. the choir was rebuilt in marble and many stained glass windows were replaced with white glass to let more light in. The spire, which had been damaged by the wind, was removed. Then, during the French Revolution, many treasures were either destroyed or plundered. By the time Napoleon came to power it was funtional, but half-ruined and it was not until 1844 that a restoration project that lasted 25 years began. A number of original features were remade and a new spire was made. In 1963, the facade was cleaned of soot and grime and its true colour of off-white came to light again.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
When working with new clients, especially on brand development, one of the first things I get them to do for me is explain their WHY. What is it about what you do (or what you want to do) that gets you out of bed in the morning? Or keeps you up at night? Or has you typing away on your laptop in a café on a Sunday morning? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Because starting a business is HARD. And it's even harder when you start to forget why you're doing it in the first place. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I've had to take my own advice recently and reconnect with my WHY. When I made the decision to be 100% self-employed there were a whole bunch of reasons driving me. But the biggest? I wanted more time to live life on purpose. To explore. To spend quality time with people I love. To get the work done, serve the people I'm driven to serve... then get back to living. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So, these last few weeks, I've consciously worked to shed the guilt that creeps in every time I leave my laptop in the middle of the afternoon to do some exploring. Because that was my WHY. And knowing my why - being able to go back to it over and over again (as I'll have to continue to do for YEARS to come to keep myself sane) - is key to living and owning a business with intention. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Cue the super joyful moment today of putting my laptop away and doing a two-hour guided tour of the STUNNING Opéra Garnier in Paris. Because life is more than hustling (ew), and bucket lists shouldn't wait until you're 60+ years old.

.
Le Marais was the place to be in the 17th century, with plenty of beautiful hotels particuliers, then was abandoned until a renovation plan was launched in the 1960s. Unfortunately the hotel Raoul was very unhealthy, and destroyed in 1961. The intervention of an architect saved the gate, which then became the only part still owned by the Raoul heirs, giving it this isolated and dilapidated look, waiting for a hypothetical renovation....
