  • The Kennedy Space Center Bus Tour took us into the restricted areas of NASA, SpaceX and Boeing. While space guide Emily Calandrelli (@thespacegal) gave us all the informations we could ask about the different launch pads and facilities, I tried to get some good shots through the windows. It's really hard to capture the beauty of Cape Canaveral and the size of the facilities.

The first picture shows how a storm rolled in as we started the tour. We made our way to the SpaceX facility and saw their launch pad that they actually used to launch the Crew Dragon capsule with a Falcon 9 rocket on March 2nd. SpaceX is aiming to help NASA launch astronauts from US soil again and this "Demo-1" mission was a big milestone to get closer to that goal.

The last two pictures show the Vehicle Assembly Building (VAB) by NASA. It was built in 1966 and is big enough to fit a full sized, launch ready rocket in there - such as the massive Saturn V - stacked on top of the Mobile Launch Platform and Crawler Transporter. That thing alone was humongous!
The VAB is one of the largest buildings in the world with a volume of 3.664.883 cubic meters (129,428,000 cubic feet). Ok, so to understand how big the facility really is, try to imagine this: The blue field on the American flag has the size of a regulation basketball court and the whole flag is the biggest in the whole world. Each door is 139 meters (456 feet) high and they take 45 minutes to completely open.

So tell me in the comments, if you could have a huge building like this to do whatever you want with it, what would you do? Throw huge parties, have the biggest indoor playground, do bungee jumping or maybe all of the above? What goes through your mind?

  • You can’t see me cuz I’m hiding behind these corn stalks.
. . .
Anyone else SO excited it’s finally the weekend?? I am, even though we don’t have any particular plans. We’ll be working on Tybee’s car anxiety. I’m still trying to get her comfortable to come out the front door, without her feeling like she’s automatically gonna have to get in the car for a long car ride. We just started focusing on this on Sunday, and progress has been slow, especially the last couple days. However, today, after I had been home for some time, she randomly led me to the front door and wanted to step outside!! I’ll definitely take that!! ❤️
