As kingfishers catch fire, dragonflies dráw fláme;
As tumbled over rim in roundy wells
Stones ring; like each tucked string tells, each hung bell’s
Bow swung finds tongue to fling out broad its name;
‘As Kingfishers Catch Fire’ by Gerard Manley Hopkins

One of the most amazing bucks I’ve ever photographed! You’ve seen lots of pics of him and he’s been overplayed for sure, but when you have a critter this amazing you spend as much time as you can with him cause you never know if they will make it. Well, he didn’t make it! He injured his leg during the rut somehow, probably jumping the many fences he did chasing Does around. By the end of the rut he was limping really bad and it didn’t look promising for him, especially with the number of Coyotes out there. Not exactly sure what killed him but I think it’s a fair assumption his injury led to easy pickings by the Coyotes. I spent a total of 10 evenings and mornings with him and I don’t regret a single one of them, especially now. RIP Roadhouse!
