  • I returned to my roots- Shoshoni, the sacred ashram where I received my 200HR yoga teacher training. I spent the last week there deeply immersed in a Meditation Training. Its impact was profound. Shoshoni has a way of working on you, shaking up your life, and connecting you with joy and bliss. But the integration back into society is always a challenge.

Driving home I had a new awareness of all these thoughts and worries and fears and doubts: I felt overwhelmed with my responsibilities at Lighthouse, I was confused about what to do next with my work, business, and life. I felt like I didn’t know what my dharma is and karma has slapped me this way and that to the point of exhaustion. I swayed from complete confidence & surrender to extreme anxiety & tension. A big part of me wanted to turn around and go home to the ashram and live in the refuge of its healing energy. Another part of me wanted to drive past Omaha and never return. Another part of me wanted to cuddle up on my couch. And yet another part of me just wanted chocolate and French fries. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I called my mom in tears, she said, “Bridget, this is exactly where you are supposed to be. Crying on a highway freaking out about life after a meditation retreat is what you are supposed to be doing. This, right now, in your car, sobbing - this is your path. Trust the process. AND laugh. You have to laugh. Laugh at your confusion. Laugh at your many emotions. Throw your hands up and laugh. It’s a beautiful ride.” And that it is. I am so thankful for this life, for the beautiful people and experiences that support my growth, and for all the many teachers that have guided me on this crazy ride.

To my teacher Devananda- thank you for sharing your smile, wisdom, and time with so much devotion and love. To my fellow trainees and all the gorgeous souls that live and work at Shoshoni... you are in my heart forever. I love you.

To every person I have met- you are my teacher. Thank you.
To every experience that challenged me- I bow. Thank you. 
To my life- I surrender. Thank you.

Artist and Painter, Carmen Chan @carmenchanart , has been starting her Saturday mornings practicing the techniques of traditional Chinese watercolour painting for years. This Morning tea and watercolour painting workshop is inspired by her idea of the perfect way to start a pleasant weekend morning: Watercolour painting, to the background of soothing tunes, while sipping on heart warming tea which is a reminder to slow down and practice the virtue of patience.

Carmen will teach students the basics of traditional Chinese watercolour painting emphasizing on the process and techniques which can take years of patience to master. Students will learn how to load a paint brush, mix inks and paints and use layering techniques to achieve the traditional style of Chinese watercolour painting on translucent rice paper. The painting subject of this Spring workshop will be a lovely pink Peony stem, a beloved flower seen in many traditional works of Chinese art.

Workshop fee includes all art supplies, materials and 3 teas. Tea and art lovers of all levels are welcome.Let's ease into Spring and warmer weekend mornings by painting together~

Allow what desires to come to you!
You do not realize how much you try to control the gifts that want to come into your life.
You believe that you must dictate to the universe exactly the way these gifts should look, when they should be delivered, and how.
Unfortunately that is not the way it is designed.
You must begin to realize that your need to control creates walls that make receiving much more difficult.
When you operate from a need to control you are operating from fear.
Fear is the biggest wall to receiving you can build.
Focus on allowing.
Allowing operates on TRUST.
When you allow you send a signal to the universe that you are ready,
that you TRUST,
that the highest and best outcome is coming to you in perfect timing,
in perfect form.
The more you ALLOW the more 
you will RECEIVE.
Work with this approach and discover the magic the universe is waiting to bestow upon you.
It is that simple.”

This is one of my absolute favorite oils right here. Great as a perfume, for sleep, and dry skin. It has a delightful, earthy aroma + is even more delightful when paired with woodsy aromas like tsuga, black spruce, + cedarwood.

① apply to wrists, neck, chest, and/or shoulders for an earthy, relaxing perfume. I love to blend it with northern lights black spruce.

② diffuse or apply to your wrists before yoga or meditation to help create a calming, grounding environment.

③ apply 2-3 drops to help improve dry, chapped + dull skin for a healthy youthful glow.

④ diffuse after a stressful day to bring calm vibes to your home or diffuse at night for a good nights rest. I like to add cedarwood when diffusing at night.

⑤ apply topically or inhale to help digest toxic material within your body.

Fjaka is the lifestyle trend that gives you an excuse to do absolutely nothing. That's right, nothing. Fjaka simply means being entirely relaxed in body and mind and embracing the joy of doin nothing. 
Fjaka make sense in Dalmatia, where the turn of phrase was created, because the heat often strips residents of the energy, to do much. When it's that hot to you really don't want to run around and stay busy - so you engage in Fjaka, sittin in the shade (or try to stand on one leg like this pigeon), relaxing and watching the world go by. 
Fjaka is not the same thing as laziness or being so exhaused you never leave house. You can do Fjaka with friends, you can do it outside, and it's not supposed to take over your life entirely. You need the most moments of productivity to truly appreciate Fjaka.

Rather than holing up in your bedroom it's worth sitting outside and trying to ground yourself with surroundings, taking in the sounds, smells, and sights around you. If you ever got into mindfulness or #meditation, Fjaka will be an easy feat, as it's a pretty similar state of being. ♡
