I haven't had time to work on any paintings lately while my wife is going through #chemo Instead I'm trying to give her a very basic #story to read one day at a time. I can't make these look anywhere near as good as I'd like with the limited time ( and practice), but I just want her to have something to look forward to every day. This is the story of Penum (my wife's initials are PNM) and get friend Wren ( named for our pets Wyatt, Ripley, Elton and Nellie). They're on the planet #POEMS based on her condition #poemssyndrome #chemotherapy#patient#arttherapy#illustration#markers#pen#family#love#recovery
So this is a #drawthisagain of my fave girl Chance 💞 I draw her in modern times now, but she actually originally was from a story I had with my best friends when we were younger! It was kind of medieval fantasy, but not really 😂 we changed a lot of things over the years before we finally stopped working on it. SO I decided I should try to reimagine her design. I wanted to base this drawing off of the latest version of her in that story, and keep the outfit pretty close to the original (but do a little bit of updating). I also updated the ref sheet to be a lot simpler than it was before, which you can’t even see because I’m not sharing the old story’s info 😂 it’s cringey and also not all mine, so I don’t feel like it needs to be public lol 😂
It was super fun redoing this drawing, especially since Chance has kind of changed as a character for me. She was very stubborn, argumentative, and sometimes rude to those around her. But when I draw her in her current form, with her group of friends, she’s a lot softer or a character, and I imagine her to be more shy and timid. Putting her back in her old outfit was super fun because I got to kind of combine the two; it would fit with the story that she is originally a more timid person, but because of the situation she gets thrown into, becomes a lot more hardened, irritable, and even angry.
I might do more of these in the future because I love redoing old art and also love revisiting this old story 💞 also shoutout to @_drudles_ for giving me the idea to do this, go check out her version of Chance as well as the other two main characters from our old story!! They’re so cute 😭😍💞
Oh ALSO the old drawing was from around summer of 2013, so about 5 and a half years ago 😅😂
Having so many different shades of one color makes coloring in general way more fun. I mean, just using markers alone is so satisfying, but with the tip of the marker so thick, its hard to be precise when coloring with them. I think I still prefer coloured pencils

Beta Fish. WIP. Illustrated using a marvyuchida Le Pen 0.03 black liner, Derwent Procolour pencils, and graphite on Fabriano Perla (grey) 26 paper.
I'm never going back to a Micron liner, never ever, after discovering Marvy's product due to the durability of the tip. Even with considerable care I used to burn a Micron halfway through a drawing. This Le Pen is not only cheaper but it lasted through a complete project and into the next, whereas, Micron's would dry out very quickly.
Le Pen for life.
