  • If you’re feeling stuck in a rut, this morning’s TalkFEST chat is for you. 🙌⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Today we speak to Deb from Spreading Roomers! Another career jumper, in such a populated industry, Deb found a niche that is well and truly her own.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
As a small business coach for the design and building industry, Deb mentors and guides people who are great at what they do, but might not be supporting their skill set in the best possible way.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Whether it’s marketing, budgeting, outsourcing, or realistically any aspect of strategy, Deb teaches you how to work smarter, not harder, and create a plan for the future. (sounds great right?)⁣⁣
⁣⁣
An absolute straight shooter, Deb sheds light onto the reality of running your own business, where you’re looking at starting up your own business, or expanding. We talk the role of social media, the hidden iceberg, and emotional transaction.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
We want Deb in our corner. An inspiring TalkFEST not to be missed! 💕⁣ ⁣⁣

  • My fifth podcast interview is here! I talk with @abhishekthakore, a conscious and inspiring soul, and co-founder of the Blue Ribbon Movement. [Link in bio]

Abhishek has a nuanced understanding of his own story. He is keenly aware of the head start he got as a young kid and the privilege and impact of that. He shares his journey of coming out of darkness after being diagnosed with bipolar disorder, and the patience as well as empathy for others’ struggles that it allowed him to develop. And finally, he talks about what moves him today – his sights on the larger narrative beyond his own, his connection with the universe, and the desire to play his role in it.

He says at the very end: “Society shouldn’t be a day sky where there is only one sun. When the sun sets there are so many stars in the sky. It’s much easier for people to become the ‘sun’ and our culture values the sun as the star. My dream is a sky where all of us shine…my being a sun is not going to help that vision, so the striving is for the night sky.”
.
.
.
What I’m learning:
This was a great learning experience because it was my first interview with someone I was meeting and talking to for the first time. It helped me explore how to build trust and create space for vulnerability when you’ve just met someone.

Another challenge was that my interviewee was someone who has processed his story and shared many parts of it before. I realised the importance of asking questions that feel new, that haven’t been processed to the T, in order to create space for spontaneous and even vulnerable answers.

I hope this experience pushes the quality of my questions in the future, and my skill in talking with new people. The negative voices were considerably lesser and I felt more prepared and grounded during this interview, though I’d like to also learn to share a bit more of myself perhaps.

I’ve also been refining my understanding and articulation of why I’m doing this, what’s the point. It’s to create honest, real portraits of people and their inner journeys of becoming who they are. I believe that these conversations help us connect at a deeper level, and allow us to reflect upon and own our own stories.

Magical Reality Blog Tour

Today we are speaking with Olivia London, author of “Misspelled”. What was your inspiration for this story? Pinterest—it’s always Pinterest with me! A photo of a cat-sized dragon (and watching an episode of Gilmore Girls with Jensen Reed) led to Max being born.
Who is your favorite character in your story and why? Well, obviously Max is adorable. But I think Grandma Willow was my favorite character to write in this story. She just seems like she’d be a fun grandma to hang out with! Also, I feel like there is so much more to her than we see in this story. She has been through some things.
Do you have a favorite story in Magical Reality? If so, why is it your favorite? (If you haven’t read them all yet and choose not to answer, that’s more than fine. If less than half answers, we won’t share. If you don’t answer, we won’t share on your interview.) Jensen Reed’s ‘Heir’ – I love dragons, and the concept of a human dragon descendent is pretty sweet!
What is your writing process like? Procrastinate, procrastinate, procrastinate. Spend three hours finding the right name for my MC. Procrastinate a little more. Plot the story out several times. Throw it all out several times. Write it and wing it all at the last second. There’s also a lot of time spent snacking and browsing Pinterest.
Is fantasy the genre you usually write in? Yes! Fantasy is my go-to for reading and writing. I love that you don’t have to be tethered to reality and you can just let your imagination run wild.
How long on average does it take you to write a story? It depends on the story. This one took me a few months because I’d only write a few lines here and there, whereas I just wrote another story, longer than this one, in one day over the weekend. I work better under deadline, so I tend to write faster under pressure. Read the full thing on PFPs FB page!
