Since changing my bed cushions I've been treating myself to a "double" bed while out in the van more often because:⠀
A. It's easier to do than it used to be!⠀
B. More room for forcing Pogo to cuddle⠀
C. They're covered in a slippery material so now it's easy to fall off in "single" mode... 😅⠀

Our bus is the best office Ben and I have ever had! 😍
We just published our latest review blog of the Honda by @jackeryusa new release — the HLS290 lithium power station. We love having options in all conditions. — This thing is a BEAST and we’re happy to have it around to power our business and lifestyle. Especially now that we’re back in snowy and often cloudy Northern New Hampshire for a while. Link in profile to read up on our experience so far! We also mention a couple power options for backpacking! 😍
So we realized we had a problem on our hands. Here in San Antonio, the bugs get pretty gnarly and it gets proper hot during the day and stays hot throughout the night. Also we wanted give Samson the ability to come and go as he pleases. .
So how do we get more cross ventilation while keeping bugs and other animals out but still allowing the cat to go in and out?
Here is what we came up with: we cut a plastic sheet to the shape of the passenger window and secured it on using magnets and a rubber gasket. With this plastic sheet, we cut holes out for a small doggy door and windows which we covered with mosquito netting to allow for ventilation. .
We wanted everything to be easily removable and inexpensive because this really only had to be a temporary solution for while we stay here in Texas. The perch and ramp was built out of scrap pallet wood and secured with zip ties and string.
It goes to show that if you can really solve any problem with duct tape and zip ties haha. The cat loves it, we sleep better at night and those pesky bugs stay where they belong: NOT in the van. .
Probably the most beautiful campsite where we slept in 11 months of van travel! We have been here in San Marcos in Guatemala for a few days now and it's a little paradise. Stationed directly in front of Lago de Atitlan, overlooking four volcanoes, there are currently about ten couples of different origins also traveling in van. Some go to Panama, but most of them all the way to Argentina like us! The best in all this? The majority of them have dogs, Osso also has a lot of friends! 😃😍 Would you like to relax here for a week? 🤔

So I flew down to Vancouver on Friday to buy a cheap van in the hopes I could drive around in a regular van and get my money out of my Subi Swapped van (just too much money tied up in that one). I bought the van, drove it to my friends house an hour away and all was good.
In the morning I checked the fluid levels and saw coolant was low. I drove around, turned off the van, turned it back on and all of a sudden the temperature light was blinking continually (not just the normal amount of blinking). I started freaking out because I was supposed to hit the road in an hour or two!
I got on the phone with my mechanic in Calgary and he tells me I shouldn’t attempt the trip home in the van until I can get a shop to look at it. Good advice yes, but I needed to be home the next night and this was Saturday. My wife and I were on the Internet and social media looking for someone to help me out. My wife Michelle found a lovely couple that lived 5 minutes from my friends house to help me!
My new friend Thomas (@thomasjoord) helped me fix, , , well more like he fixed my issue while I watched and learned. Awesome! However, now it’s Saturday night and I’ve lost all confidence that this van is going to get me home.
After talking it over with some friends we all agreed that the risk of trying to drive the van home is too great. If I was to break down between Vancouver and Calgary my cheap van would all of a sudden be pulling me way underwater financially. So I hopped on a plane back home the next day unsure of the vans future.
I put the van up for sale for the same price I paid ($9000) and if someone was to hand me the money today I would take it, but there is still a chance I could get this thing home.
The future of this van is unsure, but one thing is certain, the Vanagon community is strong and I am lucky to have made two new friends in Thomas & Kim who, without this whole debacle, I would never have met.
Thank you to everyone to pitched in and tried to help, you guys are great! Also shout out to my friends Jared and Tiff who are letting me keep my van on their property while I figure out what to do next.
A glimpse behind the scenes at some custom #vanbuild cabinets. This little guy will eventually become the designated Blendtec home, or a coffee maker would fit nicely. All of our cabinets are constructed with @festool dominos and attention paid to all the details. These mortise and floating tenons make for bomb proof cabinets and furniture that will hold up to the long term bumps and vibrations encountered in #vanlife .
At Maker Vans we encourage the use of plenty of wood glue. Not too much mind you, that’d just make for extra clean up. And while clean lines are a must, cleaning off sticky wood glue is a drag.
What do you wish you could have a custom cabinet made for in the van? Wine rack? Sewing machine? Ukulele? When you work with Maker Vans you’ll have the chance to make sure everything has a home in your home. #vanbuilder#homeiswhereyouparkit#tinyhouseonwheels#vanlifeideas#camperconversion#kitchencabinets#woodworking#campervan#tinyhouse#mortiseandtenon#europly#tightbond#makervans
We're home from our first trip with Fridolin. We've been in Bremerhaven for a weekend with our friends. Because Fridolin is still naked on the inside, we took our mattress and a box and improvised. The nights have been very cold but we had much fun. 😊
Just like that, tmrw is ONE YEAR of a true miracle. Our little bro bean Bodhi came home❤️ he was such a tiny mighty little thing and I confused so many people when they realized a baby was really in that wrap. When Bodhi decided to start knocking we had just really started getting the word out that we were having another little human. Basically bc social media knew meant the entire world knew right? Not long before finding out another boy. Of coarse we are in the holiday season and things are busy for everyone and between that and sleeping out my extreme morning sickness that never ended, it’s not like I was broadcasting to my neighbors that I love but well I was too pissy and sick to ever share the news and all they knew was I decided to add some plump from binge eating pizza every night. Def wasn’t the case but.. you get the point. I was keeping insta up to date so anyone outside of that I guess didn’t matter. Survival mode between here and VA beach everyday until March 27th of last year when we brought him home. My neighbors saw me walking and asked how far along I was bc I was carrying him, I showed his sweet face and said oh he’s here. I didn’t realize how so in it I was that those around me that I usually share stories with on the daily I hadn’t even been chatting it up with. I didn’t realize it then but looking back, I wish I would have talked to them about it because although they are just friendly faces and not exactly my homie, the human interaction of good people was the one thing I pushed away. It’s the one thing I I missed and THOUGHT I couldn’t have. It got me in a dark place and it was hard. But I put myself there bc of my thoughts. The point of the story, just because social media says one thing, doesn’t mean the world around you is aware. Social media brings a lot of assumptions, and thinking that this is the only way to share/live and be in it in life, I'm guilty of this too, talk about the weather with a neighbor, or when the dip shit down the street is going to clean up his damn yard. Missing out in their life takes me away from mine. And I have always and will always love the company and eye contact of a good soul.
Some people pay good money to park on top of their neighbor. I prefer to do it for free! 🤣 (Not shown are the 5 other rigs nestled in this spot.)
In all seriousness, I don’t mind being this close when it’s by choice. That’s the beauty of this lifestyle. The choices you are afforded. 😍

Sometimes I dream...sometimes good and sometimes bad. Tonight of the moment you paddle out with your board and you cannot recognize how big a wave runup. If you failed you face tons of water in all directions. Next time in June2019 and I am afraid and appreciated at the same time.
