Losing weight can seem like a daunting task. Not being able to have your favorite food anymore is just 1 of the reasons many fall off.

But can you still have your favorite food and still lose weight? I say YES!! It's just about finding the healthiest alternatives to your favorite stuff.

I LOVE coffee! Creamy, caramely coffee sometimes multiple times per day. If I was to stop at a coffee shop or even add in a flavored creamer at home I would be consuming an extremely high amount of sugar, calories and fat and ultimately driving myself further from my goals.

Enter protein coffee🤤 this is my second iced coffee today and with each one I'm CLOSER to meeting my daily goals on my diet plan. With just a scoop of @1stphorm level-1 caramel latte protein + 8oz of coffee I have a delicious, creamy iced coffee with only 3 grams of fat, 1 gram of sugar and a whopping 23g of protein!

I challenge you to replace 2 of your favorite foods this week with a healthier alternative. It can be as simple as using egg whites instead of the whole egg or wheat bread instead of white or protein coffee instead of coffee shop beverages.

  • I love the versatility of chickpeas - from hummus, to salads & even deserts such as chickpea cookies, they offer a neutral flavour & there are so many ways to enjoy them.

A few years back, I sadly had to remove chickpeas & other legumes from my diet. They were a big source of inflammation for me & I often would experience severe stomach pain, swelling & arthritic-like pain after consuming them. .

Many people with autoimmune conditions or underlying gut issues have similar experiences, largely in part to specific enzymes in legumes that can bind to carbohydrates & certain minerals + impair digestion.

While these compounds play an important role in seed growth, they can also make it difficult for humans to digest, cause problems with the gut & further aggravate autoimmune conditions. .

The good news is there ways you can help to neutralize problematic compounds & enjoy these foods. I have personally found that working on restoring gut health & using traditional preparation methods has allowed me to incorporate these foods periodically into my diet again.
. 🔹 Soaking beans/legumes over night can help to eliminate phytic acid & greatly increase nutrient absorption - this means you’ll absorb more nutrition from your legumes & they’ll be much easier to digest. Bonus, soaking dramatically speeds up cooking time!
. 🔹Use a pressure cooker or instant pot  to further break down anti-nutrients. . 🔹 I opt for dried over canned legumes. Although they take longer to prepare, they’re more easily digested & you don’t have to worry about things like BPA (an endocrine disrupting chemical commonly found in the lining of canned goods. )

One of my favourite ways to use chickpeas is to roast them in the oven for  30-40 minutes until golden with some avocado oil, sea salt + other spices. These make great little croutons to top salads or a crunchy little protein snack to munch on! .

Here are some easy ways to incorporate physical activity into your day!

💼Have walking meetings, instead of sitting in the conference room.

3. Green peppers. This one surprised me, but it contains 93.9% water. The other colors have high water content, too, but the green leads the pack (by a slight margin.)

▫️3/4 cup Quick Oats (@bobsredmill)

Combine the oats, milk, brown sugar, & syrup together in a microwave safe dish. Microwave for 1 1/2 mins - 2 mins.

    Combine the oats, milk, brown sugar, & syrup together in a microwave safe dish. Microwave for 1 1/2 mins - 2 mins.
    Add in the remaining ingredients & mix well.
    Topped with half a sliced banana, my raspberry chia jam (recipe if story highlights), cacao nibs, & hemp seeds (@manitobaharvest) 👏🏼
