  • I’ve explored some very wild places recently, but not everyone survived the journey with me! The most secluded places of Ecuador have been particularly hard to access (check my latest film to see the madness). But in many countries this isn’t the case. For example, in Australia or Peru I can cycle on dirt roads less than 100km and get to some places just as remote. 🏕

  • Maudi correcting her scarf. The sun was relentless on this stretch and as we don’t like to mess with sunscreen full body protection is kind of the only option to avoid sun damage to the skin. She also wears gloves from time to time to avoid sunburn on her hands. Any tips on how we can optimize our sun protection are welcome? ☀️ Latest Video ‘More Than Welcome’: Full episode link in Bio!

  • THE BIBLE BELT: From Savannah (Georgia) north I stuck close to the Atlantic coast, and via great, sociable stops in Charleston (SC), Wilmington and Frisco (NC), I rode along the Outer Banks, a beautiful 300 km string of barrier islands off the US east coast. ⁣
This being a stronghold of the US Bible Belt and me being a curious social anthropologist, it was super interesting staying with a kind family of devout members of the Apostolic Pentecostal Church in North Carolina. They invited me to church, and because my tight, worn-out lycra outfit was subtly deemed unsuitable for church, I borrowed a suit and tie 😛. That Sunday service was wild stuff! ⁣ ⁣
With all that hospitality everywhere I went, I felt like a fortunate Winnie-the-Pooh traveling from one honeypot to the next. In between comfortable nights in the homes of extraordinarily kind and warm Americans, I'd wild camp in less comfortable locations mostly together with billions of less friendly mosquitos. But I needed those solitary camp nights, too, to digest all the new faces and places and to free up mental hard drive space. ⁣
⁣
Virginia and Maryland States were soon behind me and after 3.900 km (and 52 days) on American turf I'd made it to the capital of God's own country, Washington D.C. and with Independence Day - The Fourth of July - coming up, the timing seemed perfect... ⁣ ⁣
____⁣ ⁣
🚵🏼‍♂️ From 2006-2010 I cycled solo around the world. 1.413 days and 62.000 km through 53 countries on 6 continents. This post is part of a multi-chaptered recap of the expedition.⁣⁣⁣

  • This little coffeeshop in Piazza del Popolo wasn't my favorite.
•
Here's why:
1. The barista was kinda rude
2. The Cappucino was strictly "okay".
3. The payment system was SO confusing.
•
The Cappucino wasn't anything to write home about, but what really threw my off was paying at a separate counter at the other end of the room and then giving the barista the receipt to then make the coffee. It was just strange, but then again, Im from the US, so things are just different in Italy than what I'm used to.
•
However, I did expect delicious coffee after the confusion and the rudeness, but unfortunately it didn't turn out that way. On the bright side, every coffee I had in Italy (even the worst ones) were still good compared to American coffee! (3.0/5.0🌟).
