  • Soooo, I PR’ed on conventional with 230lbs for reps and sets and they friggin flew.. but why the fook does my sumo feel and look like absolute trash?! Yet some of y’all say ”But sumo is a cheater stance!” 🙄
Well, I am a prime example that it’s not about the decrease in range of motion, but the technique of the lift. I am clearly not a pro at deadlifting, nor do I like it lol. I just can’t get it right, because of my hip issues. My first rep is RPE 1000 and then the more reps I do, the easier it gets 🙃 I literally almost gave up on the last set after pulling my first rep (1st video) lmao why am I like this?? 💀 I honestly don’t know if it’s cause I’m fatigued, since I squatted first (215 3x3)... or I’m just meant to be a conventional lifter 🤔 hmm.. still got a long way to go with this prep, so hopefully I’ll figure it out by then!

  • I didnt want to go to practice today. For the first time in a LONG time i just didnt want to. No big looming reason, i took my last final and i am picking up my boyfriend from the airport tonight and i just really didnt wana go do the same routine i do every day. Just didnt feel like it, which is not a feeling i am familiar with. It pissed me off. 
So how did i get myself to take that first step of my warm up lap?
I pictured myself in my dream teams jersey. That got me half way through warm up, then i had to stop again and picture myself on the runway in my dream teams jersey. Before going to into weights i put on my motivational youtube video, the one i have saved Incase i ever feel like that. 
By then my lack of desire was gone and i finished my workout and left to pickup Cale. By the time i got on the platform I was fired up, i knew exactly why i was there. The idea of getting that goal was enough to get me excited. 
I have spent a long time in this sport, i have mastered how to get myself out of a funk. The jersey usually works, sometimes i gotta call in a motivational video as back up, or a quick text to my dad/training partner helps too.  My point being, i am grateful that i have those tools ready for if a day like today crops up. I am better because of it. Being prepared for the mental battle before i face it makes it so much less threatening to have the sluggish thoughts i experienced earlier. I am grateful for these tools in my belt as an athlete.

On the bright side a massive external stressor has officially been lifted after securing a much needed career change. My sights are set on absolutely crushing this new path and simultaneously cleaning up these poor recovery habits I’ve let into my life over the last couple weeks. Life happens, it’s how you respond that matters.

  • 185x12 bench PR. Previous best with this weight was 10 so I’ll take a baby PR. It seems crazy to think that 185 is basically warm up weight for me now. I still remember the first time hitting 185 in the gym, it probably too me about a year and a half of working out to hit it. Consistency is the key to progress

  • Great day with Sal today. After establishing a 1RM last week we can start putting in some work.

Since Sal is quite new to Powerlifting our focus is to acclimate him to the lifts. That means lighter weights, more reps and a lot of technique work.

Today’s training consisted of a Touch and Go Bench as his main work and followed with Close Bench and one burnout set.

We will be adding intensity as we go and Sal will become a great lifter before going for his testing again!
