Down to the bits that I left uptown

After Klimt Paintings "Medicine" and "Beethoven Frieze"
Gustav Klimt was commissioned to paint 3 monumental paintings for the ceiling of the Grand Hall at the University of Vienna in 1894. When Klimt completed and presented his paintings(Philosophy, Medicine, and Jurisprudence), they were determined to be too pornographic and otherwise showed perverted excess, and would not be displayed. 'Medicine' was most controversial, depicting The River of Life, the continuity of life and death, oodles of nude females and an ominous skeleton and a potentially fresh out of the womb baby😀buuuut was void of any hints of medicinal science or healing... Klimt was damned by critics and as a result, swore off state commissions, being DONE with censorship and worked only for private collectors for the rest of his life.
My favorite part of this story is that his following painting was a total clapback titled "Goldfish (to my critics)" in which the central figure was a swimming female, gayly looking over her shoulder baring her nude buttocks directly toward the viewer... ☕🐸 #chalkmarkers#chalkboardart#artlesson#gustavklimt#klimt#medicine#hygieia#beethovenfrieze#coffee#parody#inspiration#painting#artnerd#artnouveau@portagegrounds
E o prêmio de fachada mais bonita vai para... Detalhe: o interior do prédio é uma explosão de Art Nouveau também. E eu falei sobre o abacaxi? Porque eles têm um abacaxi gigante no meio do salão. O meu queixo caiu!
And the award for most beautiful façade goes to... PS: the interior of the building is an explosion of Art Nouveau. Did I tell you about the pineapple? Because they have a huge one in the middle of the hall. My jaw dropped!
More charms / pendants in my personal collection.
Top, left to right: seashell bought last summer as a souvenir of our travel to Cape Cod and Maine. Purchased in Wellfleet, at a small art and jewelry gallery, where they cast these from actual shells. Right is a small hamsa purchased through Etsy.
Bottom: left is a Konstantino pendant with sterling, gold, and garnet, that Brett bought for our 5th wedding anniversary (after I fell in love with it at a store in New Orleans (surprise!)). The detail work on this tiny beauty is amazing, on the sides as well as the back.
The middle bird and right art nouveau-y pieces are from last year, from a vintage dealer. I tried to resist the art nouveau lady; she’s not my usual style, but she kept showing up in this dealer’s offerings. Finally I caved, and no regrets!
One side of a bronze cast plaque being designed for the American Walnut frame surround that will be part of the reverse glass sign for @ludlowblunt in Brooklyn, USA. Lettering and engraving lines still to be added in the ribbon sections but had some fun trying to figure this out to make it work for the other side of this design.
