It’s crazy to think that after having my family pushed out of this very country due to deportation this is actually happening. That after we lost everything and we were forced to leave our belongings and family behind the moment is finally here. I remember living in Mexico and going to school the very first day and being terrified! I didn’t know how to read or right in Spanish but despite that I managed to make some great friends and be one of the top in my class. I had to learn to embrace a culture I was unfamiliar with, so much that I now call it my own.
Here we are many years later ready to graduate from the number one public university in the world. This country that didn’t want us here wasn’t ready for someone as resilient as Me. I’m back, I’m better and stronger than ever. In just 13 days I will be graduating from UC Berkeley with a bachelors in urban studies and a minor in architecture💙💛. All my families struggles and sacrifices were worth it. Not even with all the obstacles that life has put us through did we stop hechandole ganas. AL FIN LO HICIMOS!!!👩🏻🎓✊🏽💙💛🐻 #ucberkeley#latina#firstgeneration#calgrad#bayarea
What a day! My time in Berkeley has officially come to a end 💔. Not only is today Mother’s Day but today i also took my last final, it almost doesn’t feel real. I know it seems like that’s all my posts say these days but it’s true. I just sit down and think back at everything my family has had to go through over the years and to see where we are now is just mind blowing to me. Despite all the hardships I would always tell myself I was gonna be successful. That I was going to achieve my dreams no matter what anybody may think and here is step 1. Just 2 more days for graduation and 4 more for my program abroad ✈️. I’m happy, sad, excited, scared, everything all at once 😭 👩🏻🎓💙💛 #cal#mothersday#storiesofus#mexicana#calgrad#ucberkeley#sathergate#firstgeneration

Congratulations to all the graduates! May all your dreams come true! Repost @thecesarcamacho There will never be a wall high enough to keep Latinos from slaying! The challenges we go through as minorities only make us stronger and make us appreciate the hard work our ancestors had to go through. We not only walk down the stage for ourselves but most importantly for our families and those who’ve paved the way for us to have a voice. I don’t know how I’ll ever thank my parents enough for the sacrifices they’ve had to go through as Mexican immigrants in this country, but what I do know is that I’ll make sure to bring other Latinos on this path to continue giving corporate America some flavor (porque ya sabemos muy bien que le falta sazón!!!)! Can’t wait to walk again on Saturday and receive my Masters as a proud, first generation, queer, resilient LATINO 👨🏽🎓🇲🇽🇺🇸🕺🏻 #StoriesOfUs#okurr#firstgen#FlashbackFriday#FABLatinos#immigrad#latinx#QueerLatinoPride#PrideMonth#LatinxGradCaps#diversity#bardigang#sisepudo

Valli and I have had a lovely couple of days together before we’re back to full Team Mills this weekend...can’t wait!
We had fun play date this morning with her little friends coming over then we attempted to do our food shopping only to realise I’d not taken my wallet with me 🙈 so we had to drive back home to get my wallet and go back to pay for the shopping all whilst Valli was going on and on about getting a surprise egg 😩
We’ve got into a habit that she expects one every time we pop to the shops so we discussed how she can’t have one every time but obviously she didn’t like that idea! 🙄
I was determined not to give in which I didn’t as I always give into her to save the drama so this was #momwin 🙌🏼
All in all a fun few days with the inevitable dramas of motherhood too!

YOUR favorite song 🎼
These are all stories we love. Either by reading it in a book, watching the movie or listening to the song.
Why do we love stories?
Because they change our brain chemistry...they increase cortisol and oxytocin. Cortisol increases our focus and attention. Oxytocin increases our empathy and emotions.
Stories make us feel our feelings. They make us happy.. Or sad.
Remember the first 10 minutes of the movie UP?
If you are like me you may have a song or a whole album you like to listen to when you are sad? Especially when you were a teenager.
As humans we love stories.
And our brain loves to be telling us stories about ourselves all day long. It never stops.
So what kind of stories are you listening to? What are saying about yourself? Are you kind? Or are you mean and self-deprecating?
One of the first things you need to do in your journey to a life you love is to be aware of those stories. And once you start to notice with curiosity what your stories are, it may be time to evaluate and decide if they are really true.

#proudofyou#lovemyhubby#storiesofus#neverforget#newbeginning#lovegram
Having seen more than two decades of students walk through its hallways, WKWSCI has amassed an ever-growing collection of stories from our alumni network.
Everyone has a unique story of their own to tell, and some choose to convey it through music. Homegrown rapper Kristian Pineda (@ptotheneda), who is better known to his fans as P_NEDA, is one such example.
With thousands of people tuning in to his Spotify tracks, the first-year WKWSCI student has already garnered quite a following.
Be sure to swipe right for a sneak peek of the rapper's feature in the upcoming issue of the WKWSCI Alumni Magazine, slated for 17th April 2019!

Perfectly, Unperfect Love .

The small ones, the long ones.
The solo ones with strangers, the ones with friends and family.
Journeys that you take with your relationships.
There's a start, some have ends
During some, we just stop and get down half way through.
During some, we keep going, as long as it goes.
Some with uneven roads and unclear paths
And some journeys during which you keep going, with all that you have.
From one place to another - school, college, jobs.
What about the journey with yourself?
With how much you've grown and learnt, and the kind of mental space you are in right now and what you did to reach here, from where you were before.
And where/what is your next destination?
THE PANDORA'S BOX: So, I'm now back with this #story . 😀
The #world was once a happy place - no illnesses...no hunger...people didn't have to go to work...people didn't fight and everyone #loved each other unconditionally. #Pandora , created under the instructions of #Greek God #Zeus , was given a storage jar and told never to open it. However, Pandora's curiosity got the better of her and she opened the jar. Hardly had she opened the jar when clouds of bees flew out, bringing all kinds of afflictions to the world. She slammed the jar shut, but it was too late. Eventually, a #fairy showed up and said she couldn't undo what had been done, but that she could give #hope , where light and darkness could co-exist. (This story is a version I remember from my fifth-grade English textbook). 📒
. #Scientology borrows from the essence of Pandora's story. #Scientologists are known to believe in a story involving a galactic overlord, #Xenu who gathered #aliens from different planets, froze them, packed them into cruisers and brought them to Earth, where they were dumped in the volcanoes of Hawaii. The souls of these dead aliens floated to the sky. Xenu had these ascending souls trapped by giant #soul catchers. The souls were taken to a brainwashing facility which tricked them into believing in a false #reality . The souls were then released into the earth, where they attached themselves to humans, producing feelings like fear, contempt, #sadness , depression and confusion - problems that plague #humanity today. This story was conceptualized by scientology founder and sci-fi #writer Ron Hubbard. .
Scientology has a valid premise in terms of its #belief in a path that leads us to understand our true #spiritual selves. But beliefs in the story of Xenu largely dilute our own sense of agency as human beings. At least, Pandora's story offers a message in terms of our capacity to vanquish darkness with hope. But, if man is really more than a product of his genes or environment, as scientology seeks to convey, how can the Xenu story possibly be taken seriously? .

WHERE ARE ALL THOSE POCKETS?! You see me here? That dress I'm wearing has pockets. That's right. POCKETS. Pockets didn't ruin this dress, did they?👗
Why doesn't a majority of women's clothing have pockets? WHY, OH WHY? Dresses, skirts, sweatshirts, sweat pants, slacks, formal trousers... and it's absurd that women's pants don't have pockets! Like, where do we put our phones or iPods when we want to listen to #music while sweating it out on that elliptical? Where do we put our boarding passes when we're boarding a plane for a long, long ride and not wearing Jeans? (I don't wear Jeans for long plane rides - I could never sleep in them!). What about #summers when we're lounging around in our shorts and #beach#dresses , and have no winter coats and jackets to put our little bits in? Who's with me, so far? 🤪
To rub it in further, we have clothing companies give us "fake pockets." And then, we have women's bags. Leather bags that weigh a ton when there's nothing in them... bags you can't sling on your shoulder because they have only those handles you can grip with your talons...who will hold those bags for us when we're busy clinging on for dear life on a crowded bus, train or metro during rush hour? And then, there are the lighter cloth-based totes which look beautiful, but have no compartments in them. Zilch. Nada! Not even a teensy-weensy pocket for our phone, keys and lipsticks! Where, oh where, do we put our house keys and car keys in those ginormous totes? Like, your car keys basically sink into the blackhole along with your laptop, papers and portable chargers... never to be found! 🛍😆
In an era of #metoo , gender #discrimination , silo mentality, not to mention the ever-extant #childbirth and #menstruation pains that women have to go through, men have it easier in these respects too, huh? Why not make it a tad easier for us and give us some pockets and compartments? 🧗
The dress I'm wearing is #CalvinKlein 💃

“Born and raised in Hong Kong to a eurasian British/Chinese Father and a Mother mixed with Filipino, Spanish and American heritage. I'm also an only child. Mostly English and Tagalog (Taglish) was spoken at home, without a drop of Cantonese (even if Dad is fluent) and attended an English international school mixed with British, American, Canadian, Australian influenced kids. And I grew up exposed to culture in Manila, UK, Canada and the States visiting relatives my whole life.
As a child, I knew I didn't fit into one category, type or culture. I knew to adapt based on understanding of mannerisms, slang, cultural habits, expressions, traditions and religious rituals based on observation. Even when I was ostracised or told I wasn't a true Hong Konger, Brit or Filipino because of my appearance it never mattered because I was happy to be a mix of diverse cultures and to have a natural understanding of each ethnicity while being able to mix with different communities.
This urge to belong in society has not clung to my psyche. I've naturally known to be different and versatile and that suits me just fine.
Sometimes people fear what is different or what isn't their kind. It creates feelings of discomfort. And what a shame it is to live a life lacking openness or acceptance of others cultural differences inhibited in a rigid existence.
When I'm blatantly told I am not a true Hong Konger, Brit or Filipino I don't give a flying fu*k yet I certainly do know who I am and what I stand for in life.
Why waste life in a constant endeavour to belong when you can always come as you are?” — Karina
On Friday we are hosting the first @dia_space Practitioners Gathering. We're bringing together 25 practitioners with backgrounds working with #newcomers & #storytelling for a day of learning and care. We can't wait to share more with you! #StoriesOfUs
Late night drives.
Talking all night.
No care in the world.
Wind blows through our open windows.
It's cold but the nice kinda cold. Like after a long hot day and then at night it's cool.
The moon smiles at our mischief.
And the stars whisper among each other telling stories of old.
We lie on the grassy bed, giggling like school children about a joke we made last year.
It's just the two of us.
The world floats away.
And the stars, and moon wave goodbye as we wander further and further from the present.
We don't think to look back.
Why would we when it's so much better here? .
