  • A perfect day by Maurizio Cattelan, color photography depicting the Milanese gallerist Massimo De Carlo literally "stuck" to the wall with sturdy adhesive tape. Cynical and painful at the same time, the work can be interpreted as an allusion to the barbaric ferocity of which the human soul is capable, but also to the individual's inability to act and take control of his own existence by rebelling against the surrounding violence. It is the work-symbol that opens the exhibition Cuore di Tenebra, underway until May 19 at the OGR in Turin.

  • "It’s funny, grotesque and displays a complete lack of respect, and his work gifts us the necessary nonsense", writes Monopol’s editor in chief @elkebuhr about the work of @mauriziocattelan in our feature (Monopol 11/2018) on why art is the most purposeful thing in the world. His latest exhibition in Shanghai is called “The Artist is Present,” and it consists of him stealing ideas of, well, Marina Abramović. 
A different allusion to an existential condition, where the subject is deprived of any possibility of action, is elaborated in "Novecento (1900)". The work consists of an embalmed horse hung from the ceiling by a sling. The animal’s neck is bent downward and the hooves, stretched out during taxidermy, extend toward the ground. A new take on the concept of natura morta (“still life,” literally “dead nature”), the final image is one of frustrated tension, of energy destined to find no outlet. "Novecento (1900)" is on display at @castellodirivoli.

And he's found a like-minded conspirator in Gucci creative director Alessandro Michele, who has an equal sense of humor about and creative relationship with the idea of copycatting. Vi consiglio di vedere il docu-film su @mauriziocattelan: "Maurizio Cattelan: Be right back" del 2016.

L'abbiamo apprezzato perchè non è il solito documentario didattico e didascalico. Riesce nell'intento di immedesimarsi alla perfezione nell'arte di Maurizio Cattelan. Un artista che combina la #scultura con la #performance, l'installazione con gli #happening, un artista che combina tutti i media dell'arte. Compie un vero "Art mix" direbbe G. Celant in un suo celebre saggio, percorrendo una moltitudine di linguaggi che fanno ricorso a tutti i media possibili.

Quello che in apparenza risulta essere una "presa in giro", una "provocazione", una "burla", diventa più la si guarda un'opera ricolma, non per forza di significato (il visitatore vuole cercare sempre una morale da una opera... ) ma di una identità propria, capace addirittura di essere scambiata per reale.

Ecco che nel rapporto realtà - finzione di Cattelan vediamo un manichino con le fattezze del papa caduto a terra per colpa di un meteorite ("La nona ora" 1999), oppure un Hitler infante inginocchiato e devoto alla preghiera ("Him", 2001), e ancora 3 bambini impiccati a un albero nei pressi di Milano nel 2004.

Esempi di opere che rimandano al grande potere comunicativo dell'arte nonchè alla grande forza di persuasione e credibilità dell'immagine capace di far apparire per vero ciò che in realtà è pura finzione. Da fare la ciliegina sulla torta il personaggio di Maurizio Cattelan all'interno del film.... Non vi spoileriamo nulla, tranquilli! .
Curiosità 1: nell'opera dei 3 bambini impiccati addirittura un signore si arrampicó sull'albero per tagliare le corde perchè non riusciva più a resistere a vedere quell'immagine scioccante. Quando era ora di tagliare la terza corda cadde e si fratturó una vertebra della schiena...
.
Curiosità 2: questa di puro gossip... È stato fidanzato di Victoria Cabello.. Che compare nel docu-film sfoggiando un perfetto inglese e un bellissimo cane.

  • Arról a szép fekete lóról, aki az olmützi fôtér egyik házát díszíti, félig kiemelkedve belôle, eszembe jutott, hogy valahol meg láttam egy másikat, aki befele ment egy falba. Eltartott egy darabig, aztán rájöttem, Velencében, a Punta della Doganaban láttam, és egy Maurizio Cattelan szobor. A múzeum régen a vám épülete volt, aztán Francois Pinault, műgyűjtő, sok luxusmárka tulajdonosa, Salma Hayek férje megvette, megbízta a japán építészt, Tadao Andot az áttervezéssel, és most nagy kiállítások helye.
