  • “In high school, I went through this reverse identity crisis. I went to a private school that was mostly Arab, so everybody had brown hair and olive or dark skin, but nobody was blonde and white-looking. I didn't think about it much because I had started going there in elementary school. While others struggled to be more American, I was the opposite. When I realized that I looked different, I wanted to be so much more Arab. When people saw me on the street, they didn’t know that I was Arab. And I wanted everybody to know, but they wouldn’t unless I opened my mouth and spoke in Arabic. In school, I hated learning Arabic, but I worked hard to keep it up and stay in the loop on Arabic music and just be in the know. It's just become a part of me. I think that's why now everyone's like, ‘You’re the most Arab person I've ever met.’ It's because I went through this thing where I felt like, ‘I don't really fit in here because I don't look like everybody else. But I feel like everybody else.’ But now, in adulthood, I'm comfortable with who I am. Some days, I want to be the most Arab person. And some days, I just want to blend in with every other non-Arab on the street and have people tell me, ‘Your name is so exotic,’ when I get a drink at Starbucks. Now, I love the person that I am. I love being able to be both Arab and American, I embody both. Maybe I lean a little bit more towards the Arab side, just because I tried so hard to be something that I already was.”

I haven’t posted much because I have been full of a lot of anxiety and mixed emotions... today I am taking a leap, and going back to work! 3-4 days a week! I am anxious to leave Sebastian, but Im leaving him in the care of a sweet friend I know from middle school! She’s a Ventilator Specialized Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). I am not nervous to leave him with her, she carries herself so well. Asks all the right questions and is familiar with patients like our sweet Sebastian. I didn’t feel the need to “grill her” with questions because I can tell She’s very well educated in her field and all around. And she’s also a mom, which helps! Lol. Sebastian met her last week and he fell asleep on her so I’m pretty sure he’s fine with the transition! 😂 This will be the first time I’m taking on a full work schedule since I was 32 weeks pregnant, and that’s the biggest place my anxiety stems from. I do think it will do wonders for my mental sanity and well being to get out, work, drive a car and talk to someone other than my baby, though. 😂❤️ I can’t believe this day is here but I’m going to embrace it and let the trust I have in Taylor’s care for him put my anxiety at ease, while I try to enjoy being a working mom again. Man I can’t wait to get home and kiss that face, though!! ❤️

  • Our Individual Study students had a great time touring the Microsoft Inclusion lab this quarter. This community activity provided students a great opportunity to observe the physical nature of a work environment such as the noise level, temperature, physical layout, job duties and physical requirements, and work attire. Since the goal of the course is for students to more clearly define their career pathway, observing various work environments helps them identify careers they can envision themselves in and discuss accommodations and/or adaptations that might be needed in their chosen career pathway.

Some of the accommodations they learned about were how desks can be adjusted to accommodate wheelchairs, braille signage, and adjustable lighting.

In addition to observation, students asked questions about the work environment such as what a typical work day looks like for a product developer, what specific skills and education requirements for an entry-level position, the pay/benefits for the position, and what’s required to advance to the next level. They also inquired about the challenges that come with this position, and advice for someone pursuing this career.

Students also got to play video games in the inclusive labs to learn first-hand how their challenges can be accommodated by Microsoft products to fit their needs, including the opportunity to try out the various adaptive gaming controllers. Bryce Johnson (Hardware designer/Staff software/game design team) shared some personal stories about gamers with disabilities that are posted on the wall.

  • Dr. Albert, Associate Professor at the Lynch School of Education and Human Development chose "Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry" by Mildred D. Taylor.
I like that the narrator of the story is a young girl telling the story about her family. I also like how the plot gives a realistic view of Mississippi during the Great Depression and why the land was a great resource. #WomensHistoryMonth

  • It’s super easy to preach “love your neighbor,” but the loving part is crazy hard. I think most people really believe they’re loving and kind when they have to be, but the second someone disagrees or causes inconvenience or looks at you funny, the love thing can go out the window real quick.

What I usually see online or in church or in politics or in marriages is that unless a person fits an exact specification of beliefs and behaviors and likes and dislikes, that person is cast out of the inner-ring. I’ve spent a lot of terrible energy trying to carve others into my own image, overriding their point of view, always waiting for others to “come around.” That‘s no better than hate.

It seems Jesus said that “hate is murder” because when we only accept the people who match our values, we are disappearing them. We’re essentially saying, “Be like me or you don’t exist. I’d rather you be someone you’re not.” This is hate, and it’s crushing somebody out of existence.

This is especially obvious in social media, when one wrong word gets you canceled. But it’s worse when it comes to religion. That’s attributing a supernatural superiority to hatred. It gives an awful permission to say, “God said it, not me.” Which is cowardly. And if your god always agrees with what you believe and only likes the people you like—that god is the one you made up to justify your bitterness and to boost your ego. It’s a push-button keychain god that does your bidding. It isn’t the God who will challenge you, stretch you, surprise you, and who loves the people you can’t stand.

No, we cannot love all the things that people do. Yes, I believe in accountability and justice and boundaries. But overall I believe in loving my neighbor for who they are and not for my version of them. I believe not in who someone should be, but could be. It’s the same way that I believe God loves a guy like me.

  • Shedding extra pounds is good for your general health. Raw foods diet is a great way to lose weight.
They are low in calories, fat and sodium and high in fiber. The diet is rich in minerals, vitamins, and fiber. Cooking destroys some disease-fighting chemicals and certain nutrients in food. This is not the case with raw food diet which contains natural enzymes that are beneficial to not only digestion but also the human health in general.
.
Most raw foods including vegetables, grain, and fruits are naturally gluten-free.
.
Eating raw food lowers your risk of:
• High blood pressure
• Stroke
• Stomach cancer
• Kidney
• Overweight
• Heart failure
.
If you are considering a raw diet, consult a physician for advice. Are there any other health benefits of raw diets?

Frente al tema del primero corte existen varios mitos;
