There are 18 sculptures in this open-air art exhibition. Here is a selection of some of my favourites currently on view in the Square Mile of The City of London. Part of an ever changing, annual display of contemporary artists. Some are well known like Sarah Lucas (the horse and cart), Tracey Emin (the neon sign) and Sean Scully (the blue stack) and some are lesser known (at least, to me) e.g. Nancy Rubins (animal forms), David Annesley (painted abstract shapes) and Gabriel Lester (the seating structure). Although I mainly post images of my own art practice, this is part of my series on current art in London, which I have recently visited and recommend. It makes me love London all over again. Take a walk round this area and explore this free treasure hunt!
Finished editing my recent themed cake smash shoot.
We created exactly what our client wanted and what an amazing experience this was! The look on this little girls face just says it all, she had so much fun! #magicalunicorncakesmash
Crossing from Asia to Europe. The boat from Kadikoy leaves to cross the Bosphorus for Eminonu, shown in the distance. A great attraction there is the Spice market. Image 2 shows common spices in Turkey - dried mint, thyme and chillie flakes.
The name “Turk” was first used by the Chinese in the 600s to describe nomadic people who established a large empire stretching from Mongolia to the Black Sea; thus their cuisine is related to the people of Northern China i.e based on wheat (rather than rice) and animal husbandry including milk and milk products the herds could produce. For example, they milked animals and stored milk for traveling in the stomachs of slaughtered animals, which caused the milk to curdle and make yoğurt. They defeated the Byzantine Empire’s soldiers at the Battle of Manzikert in 1071, which opened up Anatolia for Selçuk Turk occupation (except for Constantinople). This period of Selçuk Turk occupation of Anatolia also offers insight into the origins of modern Turkish food culture:
The house, hearth, sofra and plates should be clean. The room must be outfitted with cushions, and the food and drink should be top quality. Again, so that the guests may eat comfortably, the foods and drinks should be clean and flavorful. All that is to be eaten and drunk should compliment each other and be abundant. The guest should never run out of drink, and when one drink is finished should be immediately replenished. […] After the food and drink, give nuts and fruit.
In later adulthood, people were recommended to eat mostly hot things. By age 60, hot foods only should be consumed. Another important message was that to remain healthy, one must take a medicine called “little”- meaning that people should always eat little to live a long life. During a meal Turks say " Afiyet olsun " - let health be
