It’s been awesome to be home. Relax and enjoy time together. Hubby and I basically wake up and give a list of dishes we want and voila! 🐷 This braised pig’s feet is fatty gelatinous deliciousness. The sweet soy makes a sticky coating on the lips. Can’t stop at one piece. Need all that sauce on 🍚 #sogood#comfortfood#homecooking
Was it just me or was today the worst kind of Monday 😪 But really, who do I have to bribe to be back in SG eating salted yolk fish skins (trust, they’re delicious) and butter pork ribs with @carly.drew.barrett
On my last visit, my mom sent me home with 2 dozen joong. I don’t know what the English translation is, but for those who haven’t eaten these before, it’s glutinous rice with beans, sausage, and other goodies all wrapped in banana leaves. (For these, my mom used fatty pork, Chinese sausage, egg yolks, and scallop. I don’t like beans, hence the absence of them.)
My mom would make joong in bulk whenever she had time; she would give half of them to friends and family. I grew up eating these and often find myself missing them from time to time. I ate the last two tonight and decided they deserved a post on my social media feeds. 😁
Other South Asian cultures have their own versions of this. There’s a Laotian and Thai version that’s a dessert! 😋
Given that they are one of the most versatile recipes and almost every culture in the world has its own twist and style to wrap some sort of filling with a flattened dough, it is hard not to fall in love with at least one kind of dumpling. .
The homemade dumplings here are the influence of our neighbors from the East, filled with meaty and bright flavors from equal parts of ground shrimp and pork, cabbage and cilantro. Steaming and pan-frying the dumplings in garlic-infused oil and a slurry of constarch and water keep them soft and moist while connected to each other with an addictingly crispy crust.
Dumplings give a sense of home and celebration as you share both the labor and fruits of it with your loved ones. It's a great mix of comfort and fun. I will be back with dumplings from the west soon!

Vacation is over so here’s a picture of one of the yummy meals - broccoli, chicken, and rice. .
But on a real note, counting macros on vacation isn’t as exciting as it sounds. It’s hard, it takes time & honestly makes going out a lil difficult. .
Did I allow myself to eat what I wanted though? For sure. It’s VACATION for a reason and I would rather live my life in the present with the people I love, instead of worrying if a piece of candy is going to ruin my progress🤷🏽♀️ .
A piece of chocolate won’t ruin progress. Even an entire day of eating out won’t ruin your progress! As long as your eating nutritional foods, drinking your watah, and most importantly having fun, there’s no reason to stress. Focus on making those happy memories♥️ .
