  • ✨Thursday confessional *long post, pleassseee read!** When I started my fitness journey nursing school was just an idea. It morphed into something much bigger than me over the last {4} years. Yes, I said 4. This adventure has been one in the same [fitness + nursing] since 2015. I’ve had my highs and I’ve also had many lows. BUT, today was my first day as an RN, on the unit, with real people as patients. And I was T H R I V I N G forreal.
My #soapbox today is this: even if you have just a thought about something that you might possibly enjoy, EXPLORE it! Passion comes in so many shapes and forms but without searching, you may never find it. Life is full of obstacles and full of negativity (trust me, been there), but by pushing forward with that idea in your head, you can literally do anything.
An idea becomes a dream and a dream becomes a goal; once you’ve crushed those goals you grow... in confidence, and in self-love and appreciation. You can look at your last *4* years and say “I did it!” And that, my friends, feels DAMN good!
I’ve crushed my life goal and there’s more where that came from! #letsdothedamnthing 🙌🏼🔥✨💪🏼 •

  • To do what nobody else will do, in a way that nobody else can do it, in spite of all we go through...that is what it means to be a nurse✨
-
Such a long week but have to keep remembering what a privilege it is to be able to experience the beginning of life with these tiny humans in our NICU.🏥

  • Today’s nursing post: how I manage my schedule while maintaining a healthy life style.

Since I get asked this all of the time, for starters, I work half day shift and half night shift and personally, I LOVE IT.

While I have to spend so many days sleeping, I still manage to find ways to workout and eat well.

On days that I work the day shift, I don’t workout at all- and usually these are the days that I eat the most food 😂👏🏽 On days that I work the night shift, I TRY (key word) to do 20-30 minutes of cardio before hand. This is not really for the fitness aspect, but more because it gives me extra energy at the start of my shift.

My four days off of work are when I do my heavy lifting days. I’m usually at the gym for an hour to an hour and a half and usually have super effective workouts!

As for food- get the most questions about this- I try to always prep my food for the week (but ONLY for the that days I work). For the days I have off, I like to make my own meals so I don’t get tired of having the same things over and over. I find it super helpful to prep because when you’re in the nursing profession, every minute of sleep counts 😂👏🏽 so it’s super nice to have my meals READY.

Hope this helps some of you!!!!! Comment below if you have any other nursing things that you want me to write about in my future posts ☺️😚💕

  • The more life experience I have, the more I learn that no one has everything figured out. We are all broken messes just learning and growing as we go 💙 Be patient with yourself and don’t compare your life to anyone else’s. Enjoy every moment of this crazy, beautiful, hot mess of a life. ✨

  • “ I DON’T NEED TO BE MORE FLEXIBLE “, said no one... EVER!!! 😛. Ok so now that we know that everyone could be using some more of this dough, let’s first address WHY one should work on his or her flexibility and then we can slide into HOW.
As a medical professional, I rely soley on evidemce-based research when seeking information. Due to genetic factors, gender, body shape and physical activity, the level of flexibility will differ, but factors that are guaranteed to decrease one’s flexibility level are: aging, inactivity, lack of stretching, muscle overuse and injury..
‼️Here are my 3 MUST KNOW facts on flexibility:
🤸🏼‍♀️1. Flexibility can have a major impact on weight bearing joints such as the hips and knees. Wide range of motion is important for maintenance of cartilage and other structures within the joint~ increase in blood flow= increased nutrients= increased quantity of synovial joint fluid (just like oil for your car)💦
🤸🏼‍♀️2. Increased flexibility=decreased risk of injury+improved stability. Stretching decreases resistance in tissue structures, therefore less chance of becoming injured by exceeding tissue extensibility (maximum range of tissues) during activity.
🤸🏼‍♀️3. Massage, like “deep tissue massage” increases flexibility by getting deeper into the muscle which releases tension and tightness.
...And last but not least... Have you ever heard the saying: “better bend then break”? Or “use it or loose it”? Yes my friends, this certainly applies to flexibility and as far as I’m concerned
Flexibility=longevity ✨✨✨✨.
Do you think I should make, a "How to learn splits" workout video? Comment below ⬇️

Is it real?? Am I really here at the end of this journey?? I remember not being anywhere close to starting. .
.
.
I started my pre-req’s in 2009 y’all! 😲 I started this journey with no responsibilities. When it was truly a time in my life where it was all about me. .
.
.
After marriage and 2 kids, I feel like this is something I am doing for all of us. But really, I am doing it for that girl. That girl that wanted to be so damn independent. That girl that wanted to turn out better than she was ever supposed to. .
.
.
I grew up with more adversity and hardship than I will ever show. Even though it sounds like I’m looking for sympathy or that I am bitter, it’s actually the opposite. I’m grateful for all those experiences because they taught me something. The taught me to be the person I am. Man, I am really proud of this girl!

  • sometimes I forgot how many times I’ve picked myself off the floor. how many times I’ve said no to a night out, to stay in for the night to study. i forget how many times I’ve been devastated by the loss, death and grief I’ve witnessed in one shift, and then walk out the doors of the hospital and force a smile. how many times I’ve acted as a teacher, a mentor, a guide. how many times I’ve been a shoulder to cry on, a hand to hold, an ear to listen. nursing is hard. being in grad school makes it exponentially harder. sometimes I feel like I’m guppy breathing with my head barely above water. but there are days where a family member of a patient will tell you that you’re amazing...and you actually believe it. and you’ll be proud of the work you’ve put in to get to where you are today, and the sacrifices you’ve made.
I challenge you to take some time to reflect on what you think makes you amazing. It’s uncomfortable. And it’s unnatural. But we each have so many unique gifts that make us amazing. And it’s about time you recognized them in yourself. I know I say it a lot, but LOVE YO SELF friends.
Super excited to be apart of the Amaze Yourself campaign with @landauuniforms ❤️ more news to come!
