Which dreamscape edit are you picking?
1, 2, 3, 4 or 5?!
I’ve got to be honest with you guys, Im loving the style I’ve began to create for myself but as my edits are becoming a longer and longer process, it’s becoming more difficult to consistently pump out fresh content five or six days a week and be 100% satisfied with everything I’m putting out! I only want to share my best, and the work I’m most proud of, but I also want to provide something each and every day for those of you who keep coming back because you love to see my work all the time! So I’m going to be reposting every now and again, but not just a plain old reposts for the sake of a repost! I’m going to be sharing sets like this, before & afters and anything else that’ll give you guys more of an insight into how I create my images whilst keeping a consistent output of work for you guys! So I hope that’s okay with all of you! And I hope you enjoy having some of these bangers back in your feeds! .

I just got home after a weekend away in Byron! The wedding I was there to shoot was beautiful, couldn’t not have asked for a better day if had to order one, so I was stoked with that. But with the weather & the timing of the day I only got one chance to head out and shoot for myself whilst I was there. I’d already shot broken head from the air on a prior trip out here and some light rain was beginning to fall so I decided to leave the drone at home, throw the 85mm on my camera, sling it over my shoulder and head down to the beach with one camera and one lens, and just by being a little more present, this is what I was able to come away with!
This shot isn’t posed, or even planned. I don’t know who this girl is (if you recognize her tag her in the comments) but as she was waiting for her boyfriend to pick something up that he dropped, she struck this pose, and I was quick enough to capture it! It’s funny I’ve been wanting to slowly introduce more purposely posed images into my work, using subjects to begin to create the scene that I want to bring out in my edit, yet the first time I get a good crack at doing that, it’s completely unplanned with a total stranger, I love that about this art form.

Im not going to lie to you, I’m pretty caption-less tonight. I feel like I’ve built up this expectation of writing something deep and meaningful with every post where when it comes to days like today where I’m just not feeling it, or days where I’m too busy to set aside half an hour or so to write a meaningful caption, I decide not to post at all... it’s fairly ironic, social media has given us this platform to share our work seamlessly with an audience and artists will still find a way to make it difficult for themselves. Gone are the days of making a beautiful piece of art, naming it something that leaves more questions than answers and releasing it to the world and waiting for viewers to come. Nowadays it’s just as much about the way in which you share your work, as it is the work that’ll get you the recognition that artists search for. I remember back in high school art class I was always annoyed by the fact that paint smeared across a piece of glass and titled “life” with a long explanation about expression and feelings would be received better by critiques than a photorealistic portrait titled as the name of the subject... but now I get it, I just needed to be on the other side to understand. Ha guess I did have a caption inside me, just needed to write about not having a caption for it to come out 😂

I really want to express something tonight that I don’t think enough people properly represent, especially in our little community of artists! I get messages every single day that go along the lines of, “all these places you get to visit all the time are so beautiful! I wish I had the time or the money to do what you do.” And I always try to send back a message that is both realistic and encouraging at the same time, when in reality, I should just be blunt about it! So that’s what I’m going to do.
-
I don’t. I get to travel, two or maybe three times a year if I’m lucky! I get to go on a smaller one or two day road trips maybe two or three times a month and each time those days eat into either the time I could be working or the time I could be spending with my girlfriend, or my family! 99.9% of my days are spent behind my computer screen editing client films or photos, it’s the early hours of the morning or late hours at night that I get to spend editing these images! My bank account is pretty consistently close to empty because I spend all of it either putting it back into my business, traveling or on camera gear! I love the life that I lead but it’s not nearly as glamorous as it seems. These people you see traveling the world full time, are either ridiculously hard working, and their schedules would make you sick just looking at them, or they’re being helped by someone to fund those adventures. That being said, my days look like that because the road to get to lead the lives that some of the best do isn’t glamorous at all, it takes a dumb amount of hard work and a willingness to give up absolutely everything for an ideal that you believe in! So if you are one of the few that messages me asking how, that’s how. .

  • Enjoying the view 🌄 #whpweekend -
If I have even a handful of moments like this in my lifetime I’ll leave this place a happy man! This hike felt like a moment that was just meant to happen! It started out by arriving to a lookout we’d never been to before in the pouring rain and thick in fog barely being able to see more than 50m in front of you! We finally found the entrance to the trail, still in the rain and deep in mud, but we decided to go after it anyway! The hike was steep, and for the beginning, had barely any visibility at all. We got the first opening, and had to make a decision, either turn back because it didn’t seem like the fog was clearing, or push on and hope that it cleared as we got a little lower... so we decided to keep going! And right as we got to the end of the trail, the skies opened up, and gave us a view of the Na Pali coast that I won’t soon forget! The prize always feels so much better when it’s come at a cost, there’s been plenty of times where I’ve rolled up to a destination for sunrise or sunset, parked in the parking lot and walked less than 100m to the photo destination and taken some of my best photos to date! But there’s only been maybe a handful of times where I’ve driven a number of hours through the middle of the night. Hiked a trail that seemed to be going no where, or braved conditions that just didn’t seem to be working for me. And it’s those times that always leave me with the memories that make these images the favorites of any that I took in 2018! We all started creating because we wanted to capture these memories, but it can be easy to lose connection with that, and chase after the image before the experience! .
